“Labels are subjective. You may be a labeled as a minority in one place, but as a majority in the next. The labeling of individuals restricts the change that we could make if we all came together to work towards a common goal. Today, we don’t see individuals as human beings; we see them as labels. I want to live in a world where we fight for all human rights and not just for one specific group.  I think that it is important that we deconstruct labels because it reveals the truths within people, rather than ignorantly assuming one’s character based on a label handed to them by society. I judge based on the individual and actual person. I don’t want to be forced-fed information pertaining to a certain group of people; we have to broaden our perspective and be more accepting. We have to see the good in people rather than being construed by the bad. There is a lack of interconnections throughout the world. We live in bubbles. For example, I had brought up the conflict in Aleppo to my friend and I soon found that she had no understanding of what had been going on in Syria. We are living through a genocide, yet nobody knows it. By choosing to stay blind, to stay ignorant, the issue is going unheard and we are hurting even more people. We need to refine the definition of humanity. There are a lot of positive things in this world and we need to choose to see the good rather than the bad.”
