Thoroughly Modern Millie blazes trail for triumphant theatre program in the future

This past weekend, the Acting Troupe of Lambert produced their spring musical: Thoroughly Modern Millie.
“Set in New York City in 1922, Thoroughly Modern Millie tells the story of young Millie Dillmount from Kansas who comes to New York in search of a new life for herself. Her grand plan is to find a job as a secretary for a wealthy man and then marry him. However, her plan goes completely awry. The owner of her dingy hotel kidnaps young girls to sell to the Far East; her wealthy boss is slow in proposing marriage; and the man she actually falls in love with doesn’t have a dime to his name – or so he tells her.” – Musical Theatre International

Rehearsals for the production started in December of 2015, overlapping with continuous rehearsals for the award-winning production of The Addams Family. In 3 months, the cast, crew, directors, and parents put together a spectacular show. The director and choreographer, Ms. Carly Berg, will be joining the Lambert Staff next year for the Acting and Musical Theatre programs. The music director, Mr. Ryan Wason, announced the exciting news preceding every performance. He currently is the teacher for the acting class, the two chorus classes, the two musical theatre classes, and the technical theatre class.
The show is filled with very unique and eclectic characters, as well as high-energy dance numbers. By the second act, the audience is going crazy for the show-stopping ensemble after the girl-power fight song, “Forget About the Boy”.
In the opening number to Act 2, “Forget About the Boy”, the cast feverishly tap dances with Millie as she frees herself of her boy troubles.
Judges for the Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards (or, the Shuler awards) attended the performance on Saturday at 2pm. The cast wasn’t worried, though, because a group of their fellow thespian friends at South Forsyth High School made sure to be there to support their friends and warm up the audience.
The final show was an emotional one, because it was the final musical performance for the seniors of the Acting Troupe of Lambert. Before the final show, the cast and crew congregated together to sit down and talk about the best moments of the show. It is a magic moment to anyone who witnesses it. In these moments before the final show, the cast becomes a family… and they may shed a few tears too.

Since the arrival of Ms. Carly Berg, the theatre program has reached new heights, and because of her new position on Lambert Staff, it doesn’t seem like it will stop anytime soon.
