Lambert splits baseball games with West Forsyth

Lambert baseball hoisted themselves to first place in the region with their 5-4 comeback victory over West Forsyth on Monday night. The Longhorns rallied from errors early in the game to set up last inning heroics.

On Wednesday night, Lambert relinquished a 3-0 lead late to drop game two of the three game series 5-3.

On Monday, it was Lambert who rallied back from an early deficit. Zach Keenan’s outing got off to a rough start where he found himself getting little help from his fielders behind him. West jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead thanks to a combination of hits allowed and errors.

But Lambert found themselves slowly chipping away at the lead. In the first inning, Jack Flemming knocked in a run, and in the second Griffin Jarrett did the same to make the game 3-2.

In the fifth and sixth innings, Lambert loaded the bases with a chance to shrink the 4-2 West lead. On both occasions, they couldn’t get any runs across the plate. It wasn’t until the seventh inning that the base runners turned into runs. Brady Burroughs knocked in the first run of the inning, and Josh McAllister followed it up with an RBI-triple to tie the game at four.

The next up to bat was Will Gabbert, who singled up the middle for a walk-off single. With the win, Lambert catapulted themselves into first place in Region 5-7AAAAAAA.

On Wednesday night, the script was flipped. Lambert jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead thanks to a few hits and a few errors. The biggest of the errors was a dropped fly ball by West’s right fielder off the bat of Josh McAllister that cleared the bases and scored all three runs.

In a similar fashion, West threatened to score in multiple innings, but they only needed one inning to gain the lead. In the fifth inning, a combination of hits and walks allowed West to put together five runs.

Lambert had two more chances to score, but on Wednesday, they couldn’t put together a comeback. West won the second game of the series 5-3.

The final game of the three game series will be on Friday night at Lambert. Lambert needs the win in order to stay in contention for a region championship.
