As much as high school seniors want to be done with school, they aren’t! School is still important and determines one’s future in college, even if they already are accepted.

Finally, the week everyone has been waiting for has finally arrived: spring break! It’s time to hit the beach and party with your best friends. However, once that glorious week comes to a close, senioritis may strike more than ever before.

“I’m already accepted to college and I put in my confirmation deposit! Everything is figured out and perfect. There’s no way they can kick me out!”

Unfortunately, yes schools can. They can rescind someone’s offer as easily as they accepted them. That means no slacking off the rest of the semester. As hard as that seems, here are some simple ways to stay on top of the game until graduation.

Enjoy how easy high school is.
If one compares high school to college, high school is a walk in the park. It’s filled with study guides, constant direction and guidance, and possible second chances on failed assignments. College is so much more difficult; it comes with a great deal of responsibility and self-discipline. Also, these last two months may be the last time some students will be in a classroom knowing everyone. Mind blowing, isn’t it?

Just do your homework.
If done right, high school can be an effortless breeze of just getting by. So many students complete assignments the class before they are due, do not study for tests and quizzes, and wait until the last minute to do things. However, they seem to be doing fine grade wise. But these things won’t fly in college, no matter how hard one tries. Therefore, now is a perfect time to teach oneself better school habits instead of being overwhelmed with classes in the fall.

Become healthier.
We’ve all heard it before: “being healthy will make your life better overall.” Maybe if one ate heartier foods, made sure to get breakfast in their stomach every morning, exercised more often, and got a good night’s sleep, they wouldn’t hate going to school so much. If everyone becomes healthier now, maybe the dreaded “Freshman 15” won’t even be a thing anymore!

For those taking AP exams, think about all of the college hours able to be knocked off.
Even if stressed out now, imagine how nice it will be in the future to skip a few classes because doing well on AP exams earned some credit hours. After working hard in AP classes all year, now is not the time to give up! If anything, work harder now than ever. Studying hard for testing doesn’t have to be hard, though; after spring break, start spreading out studying over the month of April. Then, no nigh-before cram sessions are needed.

Stick with high school for just a bit longer; only two months left until we are in the real world!

I am Jessica Borla, and I am a second semester senior here at Lambert High School. I am SO ready to get out of Forsyth County and go on new adventures in college. However, it has just recently hit me that my whole life that I’ve known here is coming to an end very soon; I do not want to take it all for granted. My column, “Last Lambert Moments”, is specifically for seniors, capturing how to make the best out of the final months, weeks, days at Lambert.
