Lambert’s basketball teams recognized in the county

Lambert had a multitude of students and coaches win awards and recognition for performance throughout the season.

Lambert had a multitude of students and coaches win awards and recognition for performance throughout the season.

Every year, Forsyth County acknowledges the county’s best basketball players with the All-County team. This year, 10 players from Lambert, six boys and four girls, had their skills acknowledged. Two of Lambert’s coaches were also recognized as the coach of the year.

 

The Lambert boys’ team players who were recognized on first team are:

  • G Austin Deckard Lambert Jr., who averaged 10.1 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals
  • F Matt Ganote Lambert Sr., who averaged 9 points, 8 rebounds a game
  • G Jordan McIlwain Lambert Jr., who averaged team-high 14.3 points
  • G Andrew Melms Lambert Sr., who averaged 11.3 points, 6 assists, 2 steals

On the second team:

  • G Damon Stoudamire Lambert Jr.

And the honorable mentions:

  • G Mitch Ganote Lambert Soph.
  • G Musa Thompson Lambert Sr.

And coach of the year, Scott Bracco, who “led the Longhorns to their fourth consecutive region championship appearance and second round state playoff appearance with 24-5 record.”

 

The Lambert girls’ team players who were recognized on the first team are:

  • G/F M.E. Craven Lambert Jr., who averaged 10 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.8 steals a game
  • F Jaleah Greene Lambert Jr., who averaged 8.6 points, 6 rebounds a game

On the second team:

  • G Summer Edwards Lambert Jr.
  • G Molly Williams Lambert Sr.

And the coach of the year, Jaime Fisher, who “led the Longhorns to 26-3 season with the program’s first region championship and state quarterfinals appearance in school history.”

 

The Lambert basketball teams have been highly accomplished in the past, having an overall record of 115-32, with this year’s being 24-5; the Lambert boys’ team players have received honors such as the All-county, All-Region, and All-state levels, the latter of which senior Andrew Melms was the first to receive. The team has also been selected as the Forsyth County Tip-Off Team of the Year for five consecutive years.

Coach Bracco, the boys’ basketball team coach, has been recognized five times as the county coach of the year, three times as the region coach of the year, and one time GACA All-Star Coach. In response to the team’s successes, he says, “I am extremely proud of our team this season.  Our boys play with tremendous enthusiasm and passion. Each senior class sets a higher standard for the next upcoming class.  The future is bright for our young program.”
