The week of February 20, 2017 was an incredibly busy one for Lambert athletics as teams on both the girls and boys side took to competition from the hardwood to the diamond.

Basketball: For the Lambert boys, their state championship hopes were dashed when they took on the Indians of McEachern in the Sweet 16. The Longhorns were able to play with the Indians for much of the game after only being down by a score of 32-28 at the end of the first half. However, McEachern’s size and skill were too much for the Longhorns to handle later in the game as the Indians pulled away to win the game by a final score of 69-50.

The Lady Longhorns on the other hand had a much different experience as they topped Hillgrove by a final score of 55-50. This victory put the Lady Longhorns in their first state quarterfinals in program history. They will take on Collins Hill on the 28th to clinch a spot in the Final Four.

Baseball: On February 20th, Lambert Baseball lost to Mill Creek by a score of 5-3, then lost three days later to private school powerhouse Blessed Trinity. Things changed quickly for the Longhorns as they went on to win their next two games against Northside and LaGrange by scores of 10-2 and 3-2 respectively.

Soccer: Last Friday both of Lambert’s soccer teams were at home to take on the North Forsyth Raiders. The girls played first and easily handles the Lady Raiders by a final score of 3-0. The Lambert boys team was looking like they were going to be in for a tight affair after the first half when it ended with a 1-0 Longhorns lead after a goal by senior Eoin Griffiths. However, this stalemate was quickly broken when the boys of Lambert scored a 9 goals in the first 22 minutes of the second half fronted by 4 goals from senior John Conahan and the game ending goal from first year varsity player and senior Grant Plaugher.

Lacrosse: The Lambert boys lacrosse team continued their quest towards defending their state title after a 21-2 victory over Forsyth Central and a 17-3 win over Blessed Trinity. The Longhorns built on this success with a 13-1 win of Northview High School. The Girls meanwhile also built on their 2-0 start to the season with wins over Woodward Academy and North Forsyth.
