Students give advice to Donald Trump as he enters office.

On Friday, January 20, 2017, the United States welcomed a new president: Donald Trump. The new presidency has brought a lot of tension into our country and society. With this tension, students have come out of the woodworks to give Trump some advice going into his presidency.

“He needs to get the things done that he promised, but don’t go overboard because as soon as he does, he’s going to receive very heavy backlash,” advises Nick Thompson, a junior at Lambert. Thompson has been right so far; Trump is already receiving backlash in the form of protests. Thompson says, “the [protests] are ridiculous. It’s hard to tell what they’re standing for. People need to calm down. [Trump] should acknowledge and comfort the people and let them know he’s not trying to take away their rights.”

Freshman Olivia Beattie wants trump to know that “[he should not] mess up everything that we’ve worked hard to build.” In regards to the marches, she recommends, “if he thinks [the marches] will hurt anyone, then he should stop them. But if not, he should let them march for what they believe.”

Wil Gray, a junior, hopes that, in regards to the protests that “they don’t turn into actual riots. [Trump] shouldn’t let them get too out of hand.”

Gray along with Michaela Roopnarine, a senior, both agree that Trump needs to think carefully before saying things. Roopnarine also hopes “everything that he will do will be for the good of America,” and she is not alone in this hope. Whether Americans are for or against Trump, the United States must join together to support our country.
