Songs can inflict a different perspective on characters or let someone rant about their personality

Novel playlist: As I Lay Dying

As I Lay Dying has some deep underlying themes what with a screwed up family carrying around the dead matriarch with holes in her face and an “unbalanced” coffin. The novel takes an interesting look at dark humor and Southern lifestyle in the times of the Dust Bowl and Great Depression. The characters in this novel are independent in their own way and each have a journey to complete while bringing the mother to her desired resting place.

Each character has a distinct personality that can easily be reflected in a certain song out there. These are the songs that stood out in my extensive music collection that, while reading this book, I was able to say “Wow, this song was totally written for this character.” Maybe it’s just the book nerd in me taking this obsession to a whole new level but it’s definitely a playlist to put on when you “want all the feels.”
