Lambert High School’s spring production of “Mamma Mia!” will bring ABBA’s timeless hits right to Lambert’s very own auditorium. The production releases near the end of the school year, with performances scheduled for April 24 and 25 as well as May 1, 2 and 3.
“Mamma Mia!” is a hit musical set on a beautiful Greek island. The story revolves around Sophie Sheridan, a bride-to-be who wishes to have her father walk her down the aisle on her wedding day. However, she has no idea who her father is since her mother, Donna Sheridan, dated three different men when Sophie was born. Later on, Sophie goes on to invite the three men anonymously to the wedding to see who could be her father. The musical features ABBA’s timeless hits like “Dancing Queen,” “Take a Chance on Me” and “Mamma Mia” that are sure to create an upbeat and fun setting for the whole play.
The cast and crew of the Acting Troupe of Lambert (ATL) has started after school rehearsals in order to start preparing for this show. There will be lots of dance numbers in between scenes that will include flips, cool tricks, and fun costumes will be created.
Senior Addison Steele, who is a dance captain for the production, shared that the cast is bringing the 70s dance style to help bring the story to life. With the addition of lots of flips and tricks than previous ATL performances.
Each actor in the show has more than one part in the play so there are multiple looks for each actor. The show has a large ensemble to display the plot of this timeless show. The cast and crew stays after school till nine o’clock two weeks prior to the shows opening night.
“Everyday after school we get into costume, hair and make up for how long we need to get the show ready, ” said Anjali Kandur, an ATL member. “Especially because there are so many costume changes in this show, it is important for us to time everything out.”
The production not only includes the ABBA hits, but it also showcases the talent of Lambert High School students. The show is going to impress the audience and bring excitement to ATL.
