It’s Finally Here: The iPhone 6
September 22, 2014
Apple’s new iPhone 6 is scheduled to be released on September 19, 2014. Originally, the phone was to be available by September 9, however, according to the article, “iPhone 6 Pre-Orders Crash Apple Store, iPhone 6 Plus Sells Out” by FOX reporter, Darcie Loreno, the Apple ordering website crashed as it was flooded with iPhone 6 pre-orders and the phone was completely sold out. Two versions of the iPhone 6 are going to be sold to the public: The iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus.
The most important updated feature on this latest piece of technology is the larger screen size. The iPhone 5s has a screen size of 3.5 to 4 inches, while the iPhone 6 is measured at 4.7 inches and the iPhone 6 Plus at 5.5 inches. The size of the iPhone was increased to compete with the rival Android and Windows phones.
Another drastic change in Apple’s production is the overall shape of the phone. The iPhone 6 is enhanced with rounded, smooth corners and more of a “pill-shaped” volume button as described by Mario Aguilar in, “iPhone 6 Plus: Everything You Need to Know About Apple’s Jumbo Phone.” Because of the vast enlargement in size, it is said that the iPhone 6 closely resembles a smaller iPad Mini.
The thickness of the iPhone is being reduced to 6.9mm, while the iPhone 5s is 7.6mm. Its power button is also being shifted to the right side of the phone as opposed to being located at the top of the iPhone 5s.
The ever-popular thumbprint censor is, of course, being continued and both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are going to be made in three colors: silver, gold and “space grey.”
So, get your iPhone 6 or 6 Plus on September 19, with iPhone 6 prices beginning at $199 for 16GB, $299 for 64GB and $399 for 128GB as announced in, “Apple Announces iPhone 6: Better Specs, New Features, Larger Screen Sizes,” by Zack Whittaker. The iPhone 6 Plus, however, will be $299 for 16 GB, $399 for 64GB and $499 for 128GB. And download iOS 8 for free on any iPhone starting with the iPhone 4 on September 17!
