Mental state: a portrait of unraveling

This image was created on the walls of the restaurant Umaido, where the owners of the store encourage customers to add their artistic touch. Inspired by the art made previously before me, I wanted my art to hold a message. Beginning as a seemingly ordinary face, i decided to mask the eyes and crown in a series of scribbles. I had the idea of mental illness on my mind while creating this. The scribbles represent the tendency mental illnesses have to deceive who a person really is. This chaos can cause the true self to be lost in translation both to the individual and to those around them.
