Every National Football League (NFL) season, the American Football Conference (AFC) and National Football Conference (NFC) champions collide in the Super Bowl. This year, the Kansas City Chiefs will face off against the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans in Super Bowl LIX.
The path to the Super Bowl involves making it through the regular season and qualifying for the playoffs. The Chiefs trounced the rest of the AFC West division, ending with a 15-2 record, qualifying as the top seed in for the playoffs. The Eagles finished with a 14-3 record and started the postseason in a still impressive two seed.
A notable game for the Chiefs this playoff season included a contentious call against the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship, where Bills quarterback Josh Allen was ruled barely short on a fourth-down run and denied a chance to score. The Bills would ultimately fall 29-32, paving the way for the Chiefs to advance to the Super Bowl.
The Eagles completed a lopsided victory against the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship game on January 26, winning 55-23. Running back Saquon Barkley scored three touchdowns, including a 60-yard touchdown on the team’s first play of the game.
“I expect a great-fought match between two great teams,” Lambert senior and football player Connor Williams said.
The Chiefs and Eagles previously collided in the Super Bowl in 2023, where the Chiefs took home the Vince Lombardi trophy in a 38-35 victory. While many players and staff on both sides have departed and changed hands, key players, including quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts, still remain.
“I’m rooting for the Eagles because I want to see Hurts win a ring,” Williams added.
Winning the Super Bowl this year would complete a three-peat for the Chiefs, while the Eagles are looking for their first since 2017.
As another NFL season comes to a close, it’s been an enjoyable regular season and playoffs to watch. As the focus now shifts to the Super Bowl, anticipation builds for what promises to be a historic showdown between two top teams.
