Lil Durk is a Chicago-based rapper and vocalist. His previous works, which are sometimes about a poor background that led to a life of death, addiction, and inner grief, are personal yet tend to somehow be  relatable. “7220 Reloaded,” though, a completely new studio album from Lil Durk is more of the same. Working inside a framework isn’t always terrible, but this album sounds relatively similar to his other albums.

The album is chock-full of little subtleties that demonstrate Durk’s depth as a character and a writer, with him handling sorrow with a dexterity well beyond other rappers.

Unfortunately, when the instrumentals and lyrics come together, the music becomes too similar to his other work. At this stage in his career, he has a multitude of distinct stories to tell, and each tune needs a spotlight that this album did not deliver on.

This album, while not perfect, offers a lot of appealing songs. “7220: also makes good use of featured artists. The single, titled “What Happened To Virgil,” benefits from Gunna’s bouncy style.

Anshul Chandwadkar, a student at Lambert High, is a big fan of Lil Durk.

“‘What Happened To Virgil’ is without a doubt my favorite track. The song’s flow is really nice,” Chandwadkar commented.

In short, ‘7220’ is far from flawless, yet it appears to embrace its flaws to create an overall decent album.
