Baseball coach, biology and anatomy teacher and new parent Craig Scutt is doing it all and pushing himself to his limits everyday to be the best possible coach and teacher as a part of the Lambert community. After his paternity leave earlier in the semester, Scutt jumped right back into a busy and successful junior varsity baseball season.
“This year, we finished with a seven and ten record, which is an increase from last year,” Scutt explained. “We beat teams that had swept us in years past as well so it was a step forward.”
The team met Monday through Saturday for either games or practices, with Sundays being their “rest days”. With so much on his plate, Scutt has needed to manage his schedule since he’s an active and over-achieving member of the Lambert community.
“As a teacher and a coach, it’s very tough especially because the days are long,” Scutt shared. “ I’m here at school usually at 7:30 a.m. and depending on what time the game starts, I could be here until about 11:00 p.m.”
With the birth of his daughter, Anna, this year, Scutt puts communication on top of his list with his family, students and athletes. As an expert in time management and prioritizing his work, he hopes to extend his knowledge to other members of the Lambert community.
“The best advice that I could give about time management is that it all comes down to choices, which is a big part of learning to be an adult,” Scutt said. “When you have the ability to choose how to spend your time you also have to realize choices have consequences.”
Although it’s hard, Scutt has no intention to stop coaching baseball and helping Longhorns get better every season.
“I definitely wanna continue coaching the boys- especially with the freshman class coming up,” Scutt emphasized. “I do want to get Anna into sports and keep her around sports as she grows up too.”
With the end of the baseball season a couple weeks ago and the upcoming end of the school year, Scutt is finishing the year strong and is excited to jump back into next year better than ever.
