The crowd roars, the coaches cheer and the players feel their heart surge with victory. Kara Lindsey, a senior varsity lacrosse player at Lambert, knows this feeling all too well. It’s an experience she’ll continue chasing at Lander University in South Carolina when she starts next fall. Lindsey has been playing lacrosse since she was in first grade, and it’s been a crucial part of her life ever since her mom encouraged her to try out.
“I was young when I started playing but I immediately just loved it,” Lindsey said.
It’s been almost 12 years since she started playing lacrosse, and as she’s grown throughout the years, her relationship with the sport has changed. Going into high school, Lindsey was apprehensive about how she was going to balance school and lacrosse to be the best student-athlete she can be.
“It was pretty hard going into high school because everything was just a juggle, but it’s honestly just time management and figuring it out,” Lindsey shared. “For me to strive academically and athletically, I just have to remember that I have to put some things aside for my own things that I want to do.”
Lindsey hopes to thrive as a student-athlete at Lander University as well as grow into a new person in the next phase of her life.
“I think going to college is a very big commitment to play your sport and continue to play your sport,” Lindsey said. “That’ll help me grow as a person and what I can take on from that.”
Lindsey has already visited the university for Prospect Day, where girls can come and play lacrosse at the university to potentially get scouted. She also visited for an overnight stay to get a better feel of the university and understand the school’s culture by watching the girls practice and staying in the dorms. Although she is sad to leave the Lambert team, Lindsey is ecstatic to join and be a part of her new team.
“They have fall practices so I would go down there during the normal time any college student would start there,” Lindsey added.
As Lindsey heads onto the next stage of her life, she’ll cherish the amazing teams, practices and memories Lambert has given her, and her teammates cheer her on as she steps into new beginnings with her Longhorn spirit by her side.
