Lambert High School senior Roger Wang won Best Supporting Performer at the 2025 Shuler Awards for theater in Georgia, marking the first time a student from Lambert has won the award. The Shuler Awards are a prestigious high school theater award for talented actors. The award is a state branch of the National Virginia Awards, which is the biggest competition for high school theater in the United States. There are around 66 high schools participating in this huge ceremony.
Wang won the Best Supporting Performer for his role as Bud Frump in the play “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying”. This is the first time any Lambert student has won this award, making it a great honor. There were 12 nominations out of all the schools from across the state, and two of those people got selected as award winners. One boy and one girl were chosen for the best leading actor and actress.
“I felt really excited and grateful for all the things that led me up to this through to this point, and getting to make many friends,” Wang said.
Wang has been a part of the The Acting Troupe of Lambert for four years in a row and is very dedicated in theater and acting. Wang initially did not have interest in theater, but had a change of heart once he saw the potential in the program.
“I have been here for four years, and I started after not having done theater for a while, Wang said, but I am glad that I did join my freshman year, I have made so many friends,” Wang said.
Registration for the Shuler Awards happens pretty early on in the year around October. Then throughout the year, schools do their shows as planned, and the Shulers send judges to give feedback based on a specific rubric. They also give individual scores for the schools candidates in categories like best choreography, best leading and best supporting.
Throughout this experience, Roger is very honored to receive this award. Roger’s award for best supporting actor is not only an honor for him, but it is such a great deal for the whole school. Roger has had such an enjoyable four years at Lambert and will miss being a part of it.
