Whether it be at a History Club Meeting, a Red Cross volunteering or a Swim and Dive meet, Lambert junior Sakinah Khuram’s passion and dedication to her work shines through everything she does. She prioritizes staying active and busy around the school as the president of two clubs and part of Student Council and Lambert Swim and Dive. Outside of school, Khuram has been volunteering for the Red Cross since she was 13 years old, driven by her personal connection with the organization due to her dad’s military service.
“I saw what the Red Cross could do for him while he was away, and that when he got back they still cared for us,” Khuram explained. “Ultimately, it inspired me to join the Red Cross.”
Her experience with the Red Cross has fueled her passion for what she hopes to pursue throughout her life: to advocate for those who cannot advocate for themselves.
Khuram is also the proud president of the Lambert History Club, a club that aspires to help anybody with an interest in social studies to get involved. This sets her club apart from Rho Kappa, Lambert’s social studies honors society since students don’t need to meet any prerequisites to join.
“So if you come up with even a tiny bit of interest and you’ve never taken a social studies course or your GPA is too low but you still have an interest in history, anyone is able to join,” Khuram said. “And so what we’re going to be doing is, we’re partnering with Rho Kappa for tutoring services and also for our field trips. We have discussions, guest speakers and trivia.”
As an upperclassmen this year, Khuram has been trying to lead as a mentor for underclassmen, especially on the swim team. Last year, Khuram became an assistant coach for the Dive team, working to help her peers hone their skills.

“I actually tore my ACL and so I was out last year, like being able to dive and compete, [but] I still tried to help coach and come to all the events,” Khuram added.
Through her clubs, volunteering and the swim team, Khuram tries to leave each place she goes better than before. Since Khuram has found her place in the many nooks and crannies throughout Lambert, she hopes to guide the underclassmen to do the same.
“I would tell underclassmen to not be afraid to speak for what they think is right even though they might think, what are people going to think?” Khuram advised. “I would also encourage them to join a lot of clubs just so that you might find something you never thought that you would actually enjoy.”
Khuram’s impact on Lambert and her community through the Red Cross and History Club has been extraordinary, and her Longhorn PRIDE attitude is very valued to the school. Lambert cannot wait to see what else she will accomplish!
