Lambert students have taken the lead in a global initiative to promote financial literacy among youth. Project YouthFinLit is a youth-led non-profit founded by Deeta Saravan and is making waves by providing financial education to students worldwide.
The organization conducts online seminars and distributes brochures to countries such as Spain, India and China. These seminars are hosted on platforms like Zoom, featuring student-teachers presenting PowerPoint lessons on essential financial topics.
Lambert junior Hanna Kim leads as the organization’s teaching director, helping design educational materials aligned with K-12 financial literacy standards.
“We’ve sent a lot of brochures to Spain, and we actually translate these brochures into specific languages,” Kim said.
In addition to online efforts, Project YouthFinLit hosts seasonal in-person seminars across the Metro Atlanta area. These sessions are held in schools, libraries and community centers. They offer valuable face-to-face interaction and learning opportunities.
The organization has also secured a physical sponsorship with Hack Club, the world’s largest student hackathon organization. Hack Club provides fiscal sponsorship, handling the organization’s finances through its online bank. Achieving 501(c)(3) status further enhances Project YouthFinLit’s credibility and transparency.
Project YouthFinLit offers diverse opportunities for involvement through various subcommittees, including teaching, fundraising and communications outreach. Lambert students can volunteer and actively contribute to the organization’s growth and efficiency, while gaining valuable leadership experience.
