Lambert is in the midst of a very busy period, Homecoming (hoco) Week: spirit week, the hoco game and Lalo Fest. An important addition to this lineup is the Homecoming Court. Consisting of 18 seniors, 12 juniors, four sophomores and sixFreshman, the Homecoming court will make an appearance at both the pep rally and the Homecoming game on Friday, October 5.
“At the pep rally, we wear white and walk though the gym,” senior Shirin Sathe stated.
After the pep rally, the court will walk during half-time at the Homecoming game with their respective parents. This is when the Homecoming King and Queen will be announced, in addition to the court presenting themselves in formal attire. This year, dried flowers will be given to the girls and cowboy hats for the boys.
“Last year, they gave us these beautiful fresh leis,” Senior Nayan Annadurai explained.
Before the pep rally and game, the process starts off with nominations with voting proceeding later during advisement. After the court is selected, they attend meetings with instructions on how to walk in addition to rehearsal for walking court immediately following the pep rally.
Because Lambert is a highly populated school, accumulating votes for a candidate can be difficult. However, this year’s homecoming court has some returning members, including Dani Cortes, Vineeth Sendliraj and Nayan Annadurai.
“People in band kind of vote for each other and make it a fun thing,” Annarudai stated.
The band community, being large and tight-knit, have sent many members to the Homecoming Court, including Sophia Cannon, last year’s Homecoming Queen.
“We have a performance right before the game,” Annadurai stated. “And then we have 45 minutes to get ready, get there on time and walk.”
With the returning members and new, Lambert is extremely proud to present their court
in addition to the Homecoming Queen and King. Longhorns, make sure to attend our Homecoming Game on Friday, October 6 and Lalo Fest on Saturday, October 7.
