On February 6, Lambert DECA hosted its annual “Lambert’s Got Talent” show, featuring 13 acts from various clubs. The event allowed for the Lambert community to get together and display an impressive showcase of some of Lambert’s talented student body.
In order to attract a larger audience and more participants, DECA decided to alter their advertising strategy to reach more students. Vice President of Special Events Ensiya Jiwani explained that, in previous years, DECA promoted the event through Instagram posts and word of mouth. This year, they decided to be more active with their promotion methods by putting up more flyers and asking officers to talk to classes.
Club events are typically not open to the general student body, so when popular clubs such as DECA host such events, it allows for more students to be seen and enables smaller clubs to represent and promote themselves. Groups in the performing arts such as the Agni Dance Club and the Lambert Indian Classical Dance Club saw the show as the perfect opportunity. According to Agni Co-Captain Mishti Shah, the talent show allowed Agni to practice performing before a large crowd and to support their club.
It was a way for us to get stage experience with this year’s new team before we participate in other events,” Shah explained. “And a great way to show our talent and our hard work as a team.”
The talent show drew large crowds and DECA raised a good amount of money. Since the event was for fundraising, DECA used the money made from ticket sales to go to a charity organization that changes every year. As Jiwani notes, the talent show is where DECA gets the most money for their annual fundraiser.
“Our talent show is our yearly big fundraising event,” Jiwani explained. “This year is the Muscular Dystrophy Association, so it raises money and it goes straight to that.”
The “Lambert’s Got Talent” show is not just a DECA event; rather, it is a gathering that aims to promote clubs and students and provide extra support to Lambert’s talented student body.
