With Lambert’s population reaching an all-time high, pep rallies consequently needed to evolve in order to incorporate the student body. In past years, the entire school has gathered together in the gymnasium to celebrate the accomplishments of students, teams and clubs. However, with over 900 freshmen joining Lambert for the 2023-24 school year, school spirit will look a little different.
In the interest of safety, Lambert has incorporated a new schedule for pep rallies. The new schedule splits third period into two, with the bottom floor going to a pep rally first while the rest of the building and the trailer classrooms participate separately afterwards. In addition, normal classes are shortened to 41 minutes, a six minute decrease from the normal 47 minutes.
Lambert’s first pep rally this school year was also significant with the absence of school favorite and regular pep rally host Girls’ Lacrosse Coach Church on paternity leave. In lieu of Church, longtime assistant principal Mr. Meinberg hosted the event.
Organized by Lambert’s Student Government Association, the pep rally highlighted accomplishments from Lambert students over the summer, such as golfer Athena Yoo winning a national title. In addition, class sponsors duked it out in musical chairs and football players tried their skill at finishing popular song lyrics.
“My favorite thing about pep rallies is the amount of people here, all the pride, all the people here, it’s a big community, big family,” senior John Kutchinski said. “Lambert pride means being here, being with people and being loud and proud every time we have a sporting event or anything.”
