On Saturday, February 17, Lambert’s Science Olympiad team woke up early to compete in the Kennesaw State University regional competition. The team competed in the Division C regional competition, with Team A winning first place in the Air Trajectory section and the entire team placing third place. This is a big accomplishment, considering the number of schools present at the competition.
Teamwork in the Science Olympiad
The Science Olympiad is about teamwork. Students go to their assigned rooms to take tests based on the event they are participating in. Tests can either be paper tests or consist of hands-on building activities, like constructing a blade assembly device for the Wind Power event. There are also tests where students switch between stations. Students have to work with their partners to answer questions. Working as a team is a necessity in the competition because it can affect where students are placed. Freshman Naisha Sinha, along with her partner, freshman Nabhya Kumar, competed in the Anatomy event and won third place.
“It was tremendously exciting and I felt very proud to represent my school,” Sinha recounted. “Giving the tests was fun because you can collaborate and support each other.”
Because the Science Olympiad team placed, they will be going to the State Competition at Georgia Tech on March 30. The team can potentially go to the National Science Olympiad competition!
