Homecoming is one of the most anticipated events of the year here at Lambert, but its side events are often not as highly regarded. Two of these events are the homecoming parade and the pep rally, and they will be held on Thursday and Friday.
Homecoming is a chance for students to connect with friends and the general school community. Ms. Goode, an AP World History teacher at Lambert who also helps run student council, explained her passion for the pre-Homecoming parade.
“My favorite thing about the homecoming parade is the school spirit,” she explained. “I am excited that we are building a community with other schools, it helps the school become more unified.”
Homecoming is also a chance to connect with others, and events like the parade and the pep rally can make the homecoming experience much more memorable. The parade will bring in students from Lambert’s feeder schools (Riverwatch Middle School, South Forsyth Middle School, Settles Bridge Elementary, Johns Creek Elementary and Sharon Elementary) to participate and watch the parade with Lambert’s own. The pep rally is also intended to create excitement for the football team in their game on Friday.
While the pep rally and the parade involve the whole school, Homecoming court is a chance for individual students to be recognized as a member of Homecoming court. The members of Homecoming Court have a lot on their plate and several responsibilities to make sure homecoming goes smoothly for everyone attending.
“The members of hoco court have to go to a couple of meetings and they have to do some practices for Homecoming,” Ms. Goode stated. “They also go to the parade and of course, on the day of Homecoming, have to get there early.”
Even though it may seem that the members of Homecoming court have no part in Homecoming other than just being recognized at the event, they have many responsibilities that other students do not see.
The first week of September is one of the most eventful weeks of the entire Lambert school year. Even though for many, Homecoming may be the highlight, other events like the pep rally and the parade are also necessary to make Homecoming an even more memorable experience. Even though Homecoming may only be a day, the events before it help make it an experience that every high schooler can look back on fondly.
