The Repticon Experience
Repticon was back again this past weekend on January 4th and 5th, for another two-day gathering of reptile and invertebrate enthusiasts alike.
Repticon is a great place to meet and interact with the large exotic pet keeping community. It is also a fantastic place to see animals you may not normally see as pets and potentially purchase. Live animal showcases and demonstrations occur throughout both days of the convention.
I had the pleasure of attending this month’s Repticon with several friends. I went with the intent of looking for and purchasing several animals that I had researched beforehand. I strongly urge against impulse buying any pet and to have everything ready for them beforehand.
I left Repticon this time with five animals, including, one Asian Forest Scorpion (Heterometrus sp.), one Curly Hair Tarantula (Tliltocatl albopilosum), and three Blue Death Feigning Beetles (Asbolus verrucosus).
“Repticon is cool because you get to see and learn about other animals that are typically exotic or not what you normally would find elsewhere. You also get to be hands on with the animals as many of the breeders are happy to let you handle the animals,” said Angela Chan, an attendee at Repticon, when asked about why she likes to attend the convention.
The next Repticon will be on the weekend of April 4th and 5th. I highly recommend attending!
