When the clock strikes midnight, stores and supermarkets prepare their holiday playlists. Christmas carols are heard on the radio, and familiar jingles are audible everywhere you go. While Christmas music is a key part for the end of the year season, the seemingly jolly music can turn someone into the Grinch.
Mariah Carey’s iconic hits, Michael Buble’s holiday classics and so many others are just a few Christmas songs that almost everyone knows by heart. But many wish that they could forget the lyrics to these very classics. Listening to the same songs over and over again can send anyone’s mental stability sled over the edge.
While hearing them at stores and public spaces may seem repetitive, these playlists end up as forms of torture for workers there. Having the playlist loop continuously while working their shifts at their jobs can cause them to wonder if the Scrooge really was wrong about Christmas.
However, Lambert Senior Riddhi Goenka disagrees with this sentiment.
“I don’t think Christmas music is repetitive,” Riddhi said. “ It’s usually played during the Christmas season and brings us the feeling of the holiday spirit every year.”
Additionally, there has been a lack of iconic christmas hits being produced. While many artists attempt to take advantage of the holiday spirit and boost their songs, none have ever come close to taking a spot in Christmas songs that forever go down in history.
In fact, most trending artists simply resort to making covers of these holiday classics to stay relevant in the warzone that christmas classics have made in the music industry.
Despite the redundancy of these christmas songs, these melodies play a pivotal role in the festive mood of the holiday season. There’s a certain magic in everyone recognizing and being able to sing the lyrics of certain songs.
