With the end of the school year around the corner, and our seniors are wrapping up their high school journey, important graduate experiences are taking place. Graduation, Senior field day, the final pep rally and iconic senior trips. Though senior trips are a luxury for many, they create everlasting memories for many students. The price paid for a couple days away from home with friends, to many, is worth it.
The expenses that come from planning a trip are usually unexpected and spontaneous. Things like souvenir shops, car rides and water stops are not always considered when planning. Senior Samarth Agarwal recently went on a trip with his friends to New York City, and spent a week in The Big Apple.
“I think a lot of people spent more on food than expected, partially because of food costs and because there were a lot of roadside stalls and stuff that seemed really appealing,” he explained. There are many factors involved in paying for a trip including the flights, gas to drive, a place to stay, food costs and transportation.
Aside from these things most of the activities during a trip are also costly. For Agarwal and his friends, they went sightseeing, food tasting and also to escape rooms for their main activities.
Not all places are as expensive as New York City, so there is much importance in the location of the trip. He and his friends chose New York for a couple of reasons. First of, some of them are attending college in that area, so they would have an opportunity to explore their future home. They also liked New York for its structure and layout.
“New York is pretty condensed, so there’s a lot of things you can pack into a relatively short visit if you’re well organized,” Agarwal said.
There are always places to visit that are more affordable. For students at Lambert, the most inexpensive is Florida, since it is a drivable distance, and has a lower tax rate of 7%. Depending on conversion and money value, the trip can become more or less expensive.
This trip, even though it was short, created enjoyable memories for these seniors and strengthened their bonds as friends. Even though it took up time and money, it was worth the experiences they shared together in another city. It also commemorates the hard work the seniors have put into their education. To most students, a sweet senior trip is the perfect way to end twelve years of school.
