Lambert Flag Football is kicking off their 2024 season with high expectations for a great year.
Coming off of a 9-9 season last year, the team has been continuing to practice hard to come out on top with more wins. The team won their first two games against Chattahoochee and Northview High School on October 2, but ended up coming short to Milton and Woodstock High School after two hard-fought games on October 3.
“Our most recent games were against two solid teams; we didn’t end with the win but it showed us what we are capable of and how great of a team we are and can be,” varsity quarterback Abby Grace Flynt said.
The team is prepared for their upcoming games against Buford and North Gwinnett on October 16. Varsity center Nichole Gomez believes her team has the talent and motivation to win both games.
“Our team has the drive and skill to win; we can achieve that if we all play at our best,” Gomez said.
As a team, the players continue to motivate each other. Their motivation allows them to keep a positive attitude and push through games, even if they are not going their way.
“Knowing that you’re not only playing for yourself but for your team motivates me to do well,” Flynt said. “The flag team is super close, so being able to bounce off of each other’s energy and attitude helps.”
The team’s strong bond helps them stay motivated and inspire each other to do their best. The team has bonding activities such as bowling, movie nights and team dinners to help build the team’s strong connection on and off the field.
“We will go out to dinner after games, and we started ‘Big Little’ this year which has helped upperclassmen connect with underclassmen,” Flynt said. “Our team is super close and we have a lot of fun.”
The team bonding throughout the season has lifted up their spirit and win the Longhorn way.
“Our drive has been there since the beginning and that is what sets us apart from other teams because we fight for four quarters, even when the game hasn’t gone our way,” Gomez said.
As the flag football team begins to continue their season in full swing, Lambert cheers them on for another great year.
