With the flag football season kicking off, preparations for a revolutionary season are underway by the devoted team and coaches Jacob Chesser and Nate Richardson. Beginning five years ago, the team has gotten better each year. Head Coach Jacob Chesser and the team aims to win the region championship this year.
“I really want to focus on the details of the game and zoom in on the specifics to get better during practices so that we can follow up with those skills in games,” Chesser said.
Coach for flag football the past two years, Chesser has developed into a crucial part of the team. His approach to being an attentive coach reflects the core values of being a teacher at Lambert. With flag football being such a fast paced and exciting game, he tries to always be there for the players, especially after games to ensure the team is at the top of their game — mentally and physically.
“I really try to build relationships with the players and keep that trust between us,” Chesser explained.
Those same values of trust and dedication helped the team win many games against rival schools, and Chesser is hoping for a season similar or better to that again.
“I think we had a really committed team last year and we want to grow with that same level of dedication this season, that’s the real key to success,” Chesser said.
Varsity running back Ella Majoli has big plans for this season too, as a team and as an individual.
“ I want to continue the legacy of the girls who graduated last year that started this program, and I think it’s our job to continue that legacy,” Majoli explained.
Majoli started playing last year and sees that experience as a boost into the new season.
“I make it my goal to really capitalize on the things that we did well last year and bring it with us into the new season,” She added.
Majoli also aims to improve on certain aspects of her skill set this season to contribute to the team as a community.
“I think it’s important that I don’t let rough days get to me and continue to play as hard as possible to be the best I can in every position for the benefit of the whole team,” Majoli shared.
As a varsity athlete and proud Longhorn, Majoli thinks that the team has pushed her out of her comfort zone and helped her grow as a player and as a person .
“I’ve met so many amazing people through this team and it’s done nothing but make my life better and I’m honored to be part of the growing community of growing female athletes,” Majoli explained. The flag football team has grown immensely with the help of the hardworking players and coaches, adding more to the wonderful world of Lambert sports.
