The Lambert Volleyball season has officially started. The Lambert Volleyball Freshman Team had their first game on August 25th against Denmark High School. So far, the freshman team record is 11-3, and even though their season is extremely challenging, the team is prepared to put their very best foot forward!
Anna Vangoethem is a defensive specialist (DS) on the freshman volleyball team and has been playing volleyball for three years. She says that the team has a strong bond, which can be a key factor in having a great season.
“We have a lot of bonding events where we really work hard to be good friends outside of volleyball,” Anna Vangoethem stated.
Many of the players on the freshman team have played together before because they were on the middle school Lambert feeder volleyball team.
Having a strong bond as a team is very important, but being able to make sure that you are working on yourself independently as an athlete is just as important. Anna Vangoethem, like all the other players, has many goals that she wants to accomplish by the end of the season.
“My goals are to up my serve receive and better defense and left back,” Anna Vangoethem stated. “I also want to get more kills outside and learn to play new positions.”
Looking back at the records of this team, it’s evident that they are always striving to do their best and work out their kinks and mistakes.
“We want to improve getting rotations and figuring out our serve receive as well as being where we need to be in the right spots,”Anna Vangoethem stated.
Every player on the team has their own routine before the game to get into the right headspace.
“Before games, we always stretch together and warm up, usually we will do some exercise to get us in the right mindset,” Anna Vangoethem stated.
Being able to practice to get all of the nerves out before heading onto the court is the key to having a smooth game each time.
The freshman volleyball team is looking forward to having another great season and are ready to show off the hard work they put in every day.
