Lambert junior Parker Whipple has been a standout three-sport athlete excelling at basketball, flag football and track. Keeping up with schoolwork on top of sports is difficult for any athlete, but Whipple has adjusted her schedule to make time for her work.
“While sports take up most of the time in my day, I try to cut out distractions to make sure I complete my work,” Whipple shared.
Whipple cuts out her distractions by not going on her phone or social media when trying to complete schoolwork. She has also continued to learn more about herself as a teammate. She has realized having a positive attitude towards all situations helps encourage not just herself but her team as a whole.
“The more effort you put into something you’re passionate about, the more you get out of it,” Whipple noted. “If you put hard work into something you love, your hard work will pay off.”
Her love for what she does on the field has contributed to her journey as a multi-sport athlete. Through these sports she learned to meet new people and make new friends.
“It definitely keeps me busy throughout the year, but I’ve made memories and so many friends on top of it all,” Whipple noted.
Even while having a busy schedule, Parker continues to thrive in school while balancing her academics, sports and social life.
“Something that has helped me with the stress of it all is my faith,” Whipple said.
Parker’s faith and identity in God helps her deal with her stress and hectic schedule. Her faith allows her to believe she is more than her mistakes.
“It is important for me to remember that my performance doesn’t define me and that there is always room for improvement,” Whipple added.
Whipple is confident in her ability to perform well, but she knows she can never be perfect. She reminds herself that a game will not define her and there is always enough room for improvement as an athlete and student. She reminds herself that she is rooted in what God says about her, which helps her stay calm and rest in her faith during crazy times.
Parker gives her best effort throughout the year in her sports and in the classroom. With a continuously positive attitude towards stressful situations, Whipple can be seen as an exemplary Longhorn and her dedication is inspiring to many.
