Lambert boys win cross country state championship
The Lambert Boys cross country team won their first state championship ever last Friday in Carrolton. This is the first state championship of the year for Lambert sports.
Entering the race, the Boys cross country team was never supposed to take the title. They were trending towards their best year ever when they won the Area 4, 5-7A state qualifier meet. They had a deep and well-rounded group of runners, but they didn’t have that one ‘elite’ runner.
The reason the Longhorns were able to pull off the victory was because of the consistency across the runners pace. The average cross country team might have, at most, three runners finish within the top 40. Lambert’s top five runners all finished within the top 30, a dominant performance.
Leading the way for Lambert was junior Ty Fox. Fox has been the fastest runner all season, and he cultivated his year with a seventh place finish (16:37.42.)
“The season went really well,” said Fox. “It felt good to help my team to a state title.”
Close behind him were Byron Grogan (16:54.24.) and Lee Keil (16:57.49) which put them in 15th and 16th place respectively. The team rounded out with Brandon Burt finishing 22nd and Tanner Baker finishing 28th, completing a dominant performance and securing the school’s first cross country state championship.
