The Lambert Dance team is kicking off a strong 2024 season to be better and stronger than ever before. Their season began on October 22 in preparation for their fast approaching first competition on December 14.
The dancers have been training hard and are excited to showcase a new variety of routines with fresh skills they’ve been working on at practices. Through determination and hard work, they are prepared for their competitions this upcoming season. Captain Charlotte Brown shares how she helps keep the team accountable during training so that the dancers stay consistent with their routines.
“We are required to send videos of our dances twice a week so our coach can send us personal corrections,” Brown said. “If we fail to complete these, our whole team has to come in on Monday at 5:45 to run before practice, which helps keep everyone accountable.”
The team has a competitive season ahead of them, staying on top of their dances and keeping accountability allows for them to gain an advantage over other schools. Some schools they go up against at their competitions include South Forsyth High School, Denmark High School and West Forsyth High School.
“Our biggest competitor would be South since we are their rival school,” Brown said.
Competing against a rival team is never easy, and the Lambert dance team works to create a bond that allows them to perform well against tough competitors. Captain Lisanga Wickramanayake shares how the team works to keep a tight bond and how that affects their team dynamic.
“Team bonding is a huge part of what makes our team work so well together,” Wickramanayake said. “Being able to trust the people you dance with makes a really big difference in our chemistry on the floor.”
Coaches help guide the dancers to keep their bond and work together on and off the mat. The team recently got a new coaching staff this season. This created a change in the team dynamic, but the new coaches have continuously been pushing the team to reach their ultimate goal of winning the state championship in February.
“This season is entirely different from last season because we started with a whole new coaching staff this season,” Brown said. “Our coaches this season have pushed the whole team hard in order to accomplish the ultimate goal of winning state.”
The Lambert Dance team is looking forward to this upcoming season and cannot wait to share their performances with the Lambert community. Representing one of the various skilled sports team at Lambert, the team’s hard work will be displayed at various competitions and basketball games in the future.
