The Lambert Flag Football team had an extremely successful and fulfilling season, making an unprecedented run from the fourth seed in the county all the way to the state championship. The team worked hard and proved their worth through grit, determination and confidence.
Junior Nicole Gomez is incredibly proud of the season she and her teammates had, and she sees this season as their most successful so far..
“We had a really good season last year, and we came back from not making it to playoffs, and this year we made a really deep run in the playoffs and made it to state,” Gomez said. “We accomplished so much and furthered the program.”
The team had a lot of strong freshmen join the team this year which has helped them grow from their 2023 season. Another impactful reason was the team’s strong bond, which was built through hanging out at teammates’ houses and team dinners.
“I think we got a lot closer this year,” Gomez said. “All of us became closer friends and we just had more fun.”
The team had a ‘surreal’ experience of playing at the state championship at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium last December. Gomez’s favorite part of the season was the Longhorn’s community appreciation for the team.
“The whole experience of everyone, even till now, like the basketball team, wants to commend us for such a great season,” Gomez mentioned. “Being in the pep rally was great just feeling the love from everyone.”
Next season, Gomez hopes to lead as a senior and help her team work hard and be confident.
“I feel like our confidence next year is going to be a lot better than what we started with last year,” Gomez noted. “Also…next year, we have more of a responsibility of keeping everyone in check.”
The Lambert Flag Football heads into next year with high hopes on the heels of their run to the state championship. As they look ahead to the next season, Gomez and her teammates are excited for next year to amaze Lambert once again.
