The Lambert Longhorn football season came to an end after an 8-3 regular season and playoff appearance. The Longhorns placed 3rd in the region and celebrated the largest point differential against school rivals with a 49-7 win over the South Forsyth War Eagles.
Amongst many of the in-season triumphs, the Lambert Longhorns have four players that were awarded 1st team offense in Region 6 in the 7A classification and three players that were awarded 1st team defense. There were also three players that were awarded 2nd team offense, one that was awarded 2nd team defense and linebacker Branson Brooks was named the defensive player of the year in the region.
“My greatest accomplishment was either setting the school record for sacks or leading the state in tackles,” Brooks said. “I’ve really improved my game this year compared to last.”
Brooks ended the 2023 season with 146 total tackles, eight tackles for loss and six sacks which earned him a spot on the all-state defensive team in the 7A classification in Georgia.
“I wanted to lead by example and really understand every part of the game and understand all of my assignments,” Brooks explained. “I’ve learned how to be a leader, a better teammate and how to work hard even in the tough times.”
Another 1st team defensive award winner was senior Thomas Hall.
“This year’s region championship game against Milton on TV was my favorite game this season,” Hall said. “I had a great performance with eight tackles, one sack and two tackles for loss.”
Hall worked diligently to improve his gameplay and his successes in the weight room.
“I’m proud of my growth and development since freshman year,” Hall explained. “I was an average player and worked hard to be great. I had 10 sacks and made the 1000 pound club.”
Sophomore Jackson Deloach was one of the Longhorns that received the 1st team offensive award.
“I focused on continuing to have good practices each week,” Deloach said. “I had to keep translating what we installed each week and keep getting better each week.”
The Longhorns ended their season with a heartbreaking 20-17 loss against Peachtree Ridge High School in November, but the 2023 season resulted in many successes that the Longhorns should be proud of.
