The Lambert Girls Tennis team has had an incredible season so far, pushing through challenges to achieve powerful victories at various meets.
As they push through numerous obstacles such as the pressure of playing or not losing momentum after a bad play, tennis players have to make sure they stay in a positive, focused mindset.
Varsity team member and sophomore Sahana Bhatia understands the importance of this and consistently tries to work on this throughout the season.
“You have to plan every single point and where you play every single ball…strategy and mentality are really important,” Bhatia mentioned.
Although the sport is individualized, the team also values making sure that they all support each other and have an uplifting team energy.
“We meet up a lot because we have practice every week and we also have team bondings,” Bhatia mentioned. “We have a team sleepover coming up soon and we have a group trip to Macon.”
Tennis also involves making tactics by watching previous matches and skillful thinking of future games to anticipate and prepare for future tournaments.
“We look at players and their Universal Tennis Ratings (UTR) and we use that to figure out who’s going to be put on and what line,” Bhatia shared.
Bhatia has been playing tennis for eight years and the sport has impacted her deeply. Being part of Lambert Tennis has taught her patience and dedication over the years.
“It taught me to focus on doing things one step at a time instead of thinking about winning or losing,” Bhatia said. “Just taking it one point at a time.”
Many players like Bhatia have found a home to thrive in through Lambert Tennis. The team continues to be a catalyst for players to grow and develop both on and off the court. As their season continues, the team will continue to thrive and finish strong.
