The 2025 season was one to remember for Lambert’s varsity softball team. From the first pitch to the final whistle, the team showed heart, hustle and growth both on and off the field. With standout performances, developing talent and commitment of the players, the softball team continues to grow each year. This was a season built on consistency of players showing up, improving and competing every time they stepped onto the field.
This season, Lambert’s softball team finished with 11 wins and 7 losses in the region, and 16 wins and 11 losses overall. The last home game of the year was on Wednesday, October 8, 2025. It was the team’s senior night and ended with a 9-3 win.
One of the biggest games of the season took place on Monday, October 13. Lambert went head to head with Carrollton High School and it was the first game of the region playoff tournament. Carrollton, with a 20 win and 2 loss season, was predicted to beat Lambert . By the end of the night, Lambert won the shutout game 2-0.
Throughout the season, sophomores Olivia Cantarutti and Payton Yi broke Lambert records from previous years. Payton Yi held the record for the most stolen bases in a single season—ending with 28 stolen bases. Olivia Cantarutti took the title for having the most Runs Batted In (RBIs), with 37 for the 2025 season.
Senior Caitlin Goodwin is a varsity pitcher for the softball team and has played for Lambert since her freshman year. Over the years, Goodwin has grown as a player and perfected her position on the mound.
“We’ve made it to the playoffs,” Goodwin said. “At the end of the high school season, it will be my last time playing softball.”
As the season finishes, seniors on the team feel a mix of pride and loss knowing their time on the field is coming to an end.
The girls on the team have formed an unbreakable bond through countless practices, games and long bus rides together. Over the season, they have learned to rely on each other as teammates and friends who share goals and passions for the same sport. Whether it’s laughing before games, or cheering from the dugout or staying late to practice, the team has been built on trust, encouragement and a shared love for the game.
“We are all very close,” Goodwin said. “We do a lot of team bonding events and we get ice cream after games.”
Coach Gilliland is one of the varsity softball coaches at Lambert. She has watched the softball team grow together and form unbreakable bonds.
“We are a united team and that is what brings us to victory,” Gilliland explained. “Every win is just the girls working together to play the sport that they love.”
Overall, this season was a remarkable journey for Lambert’s softball team. Despite the challenges they’ve faced, the team’s determination and spirit never wavered, making every game an opportunity to improve and come together. Looking back, it’s clear that this season has set a strong foundation for the future. They have developed greater resilience and a stronger focus. This season showcased the team’s determination and teamwork on the field, promising a bright future ahead.
