As the 2025-2026 school year approaches, the newest members of Lambert High School’s football program are ready to hit the field. The incoming freshman team is a group of players with strong motivation, big goals and a commitment to representing the Longhorns with pride. Among them are Mark Nannenhorn and MarcAnthony Smith, two student-athletes already focused on making a difference.
Both players bring different backgrounds and experiences to the team, but they share one thing in common: a deep love for the game.
“I’ve played for about 10 years now,” said Nannenhorn. “I started when I was 4 in flag football. My dad put me in it and he has been my biggest supporter ever since.”
MarcAnthony Smith, who began playing at age 11, said his passion for football grew from watching the sport as a kid.
“I loved the physicality of the game,” Smith said. “My whole family believes in me, especially my mom—she calls me her retirement.”
For these young players, the move to high school football is both exciting and daunting. Nannenhorn said joining the team has been a long-time goal.
“Since I was young, I’ve wanted to play for this program,” Nannenhorn said. “It feels great to finally be here.”
Lambert’s football program has helped their athletes reach their dreams and goals. Smith sees the opportunity as a critical step toward his future.
“Joining the high school team means a lot,” Smith said. “I want to play Division I football one day, and this is where it starts.”
Both athletes have already started building connections with their team and coaches.
“It’s a great group to be around and a great support system,” Nannenhorn said. “Everyone wants to help each other get better.”
“I’ve met all my teammates and coaches. I think we’re gonna be a really good team this year,”Smith agreed.
As the season approaches, Nannenhorn and Smith are putting in the work to prepare—both physically and mentally.
“My goals are to push myself in the weight room, improve my speed and get better technique on the field,” Nannenhorn said. “Off the field, I’m working to get straight A’s and become more organized in school.”
Smith also has a strong training mindset in order to reach his goals on the team.
“I pray to God, and I have a dog mentality,” Smith said. “I want to outwork and out-physical everyone around me.”
Smith hopes to improve his footwork as he prepares to play running back or linebacker. Nannenhorn is aiming to compete at quarterback or free safety and hopes to bring leadership and game knowledge to the team.
Both athletes have big dreams for their football futures at Lambert and beyond. They also both hope to end their senior year with Division 1 college offers.
Nannenhorn’s goal is to grow into a well-rounded player who can contribute on both sides of the ball.
“I want to develop into someone who understands the offense and defense and can step up when the team needs me,” Nannenhorn said.
As the freshman season gets underway, coaches and fans alike will be watching to see how this new group performs. If their dedication, mindset and team-first attitude are any indication, the future of Lambert football looks bright.
“I think we’re going to do something special,” Smith said. “We’re ready.”
