Longhorn spirit relies on its cheer teams to energize the Lambert crowd and bring enthusiasm to various events throughout the year. Lambert has many different cheer teams that bring energy to different events at the school. While all the cheer teams specialize in their own different skills and routines, they all unite under one goal of bringing energy to different events.
Game Day Cheer is a new addition to the Georgia High School Association (GHSA). A game day routine consists of a band dance, a situational sideline, a cheer and the school’s traditional fight song.
“Game day is so unique, because it gives you an experience which you can’t get on either competition cheer or sideline by never allowing you to take a breather, consistently on your toes, and being loud,” senior Addison Steele said. “You have to have so much thought with your cheerleading signs and also having to memorize three to seven different spots and be fast to know your stuff.”
This year, the team aimed to go undefeated in competition but did not meet their goal. Although they have faced many adversities as a new team in a new division, they are facing them bravely and with their characteristic Longhorn pride.
Cheerleaders who are on Game Day Cheer have to be on sideline cheer to compete.
The Football Sideline Cheer team enjoys entertaining the student section and cheering on the football team during their season.
“We always try to keep smiles on our faces for the crowds and try to have fun and not worry about the score,” Junior Jessie Ledbetter said.
The cheerleaders always push themselves to keep the crowd entertained and excited for the game.
The team brings energy and spirit to the Lambert community. The team is excited to cheer on the football team and hype up the student section again next season.
Another addition to the Lambert Sideline Cheer community is the Basketball Cheer Team.
The Basketball Cheer season is underway and they have been practicing since early October. The cheerleaders have been working on new cheers, halftime dances and timeout dance and are excited to show off their hard work at games.
As a senior, Woods looks fondly back on the memories the team has made together, with the team’s close bond makes each moment together special.
“My favorite memory so far of being on the basketball cheer team is meeting so many new and different people that join the team or bonding with people from other schools,” Woods noted.
As the basketball season progresses, the cheerleaders are ready to bring their spirit and talent to games as well as the Longhorn community.
Lambert Competition Cheer is the most competitive team at Lambert.
Lambert Competition Cheer moved into the coeducational division this year. The team competed against many challenging schools, advancing to the state championship and ultimately placing sixth.
Team bonding allows the cheerleaders to grow together and create a family within their group.
“Bonding has been one of my favorite memories,” Blythe Wareham shared.
The team prioritizes keeping a positive mindset when going into stressful competitions such as their state championship.
“The sport requires dedication, which I learned throughout the season,” Wareham noted.
The athletes show strong dedication in every performance and competition, always striving to do their best. Lambert is looking forward to watching their future successes. As they continue to improve and face new challenges, they are heading towards great things.
