On September 30, 2025, junior lacrosse defender Tessa Sosnin announced her commitment to further her academic and athletic career at Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I level.
Sosnin immediately fell in love with the college and all of the upcoming opportunities ahead of her. She knew that Merrimack was the place for her because of the culture of the team and the school.
“I chose Merrimack because it felt like the perfect combination of academics, athletics and culture,” Sosnin said. “The coaching staff was genuine and supportive, and I could see myself growing as both a player and a person there.”
Sosnin is grateful for her friends, coaches, family and especially her dad who helped her through her recruiting process. Having him as her biggest support system made the process easier.
“He’s been there through everything: pushing me to work harder, stay focused and believe in myself,” Sosnin noted. “I wouldn’t be where I am today without him.”
Staying consistent and disciplined in her training is one of the key factors that helped Sosnin reach her goal of committing.
“I try to stay consistent in everything I do, showing up even when it’s hard,” Sosnin shared. “Consistency is what builds long-term results.”
Sosnin had to stay dedicated to reach her goals, even if it meant giving up free time for training and learning how to balance academics with athletics.
“My free hours go to training, workouts and travel,” Sosnin noted. “I’ve learned to manage my time carefully to keep up with academics while committing to lacrosse.”
Committing to a school is the biggest decision an athlete makes during their recruiting process. When deciding where to go, Sosin focused on her wants for school and maintaining confidence in her own abilities.
“I trusted my gut and did what was right for me and not anyone else,” Sosnin shared.
Sosnin gave some advice for athletes at any stage of their recruiting process and athletic career.
“Stay patient, the recruiting process takes time – not hearing back right away doesn’t mean you’re not good enough,” Sosnin shared. “Believing in yourself, confidence and attitude can set you apart as much as talent.”
