With over a third of the Longhorns’ lacrosse season completed, there have been many highs and many lows, including a win against Ponte Vedra that went into triple overtime and a narrow loss to Lake Mary this past Saturday. Through these triumphs and defeats, the seniors on the roster have been extremely influential in every aspect of the season.
Kevin Connolly is a midfielder who is committed to playing Division II lacrosse at Anderson University. He is one of the many talented seniors who have contributed to the lacrosse program’s successes over the past few years.
“We want to win [a region title] and then the state championship,” Connolly said. “As a captain, I have to lead the team and keep the players focused.”
Connolly’s high expectations and motivation have led to his ability to play lacrosse at the collegiate level and his commitment to being an example for others.
“We can’t overlook competition just because we’ve played or beaten them before,” Connolly explained. “We’re learning from what worked and what didn’t.”
The Longhorns suffered a loss to Roswell last season and unfortunately fell short for their redemption this season as well. In addition, many final scores from this season have been closer than last season.
Many of his teammates, including senior defensive midfielder Grant Reese, admire Connolly for his determination to assist the team in reaching another region championship.
“Kevin Connolly has inspired me the most because of his dedication to taking care of his body,” Reese said. “My favorite part about playing lacrosse at Lambert is all of the connections and relationships I’ve made with my teammates. I’ve made many friendships, and I love all the guys on my team.”
Lacrosse is a grueling sport for many players, and Reese is confident that setting a good example of staying in good shape is helpful for the younger players. Reese also feels that in order for the program to be successful, he has to carry his weight as one of the many returning players and seniors on the team.
“I have to be a good leader on and off the field and set a good example for my teammates,” Reese explained. “I plan to turn my failures into learning moments and focus all of my mind on trying to lock in during practice.”
The Lambert Longhorns will face Mill Creek, their third regional opponent of the season, at 7:45 p.m. on March 1.
