The Lambert Winter Color Guard won first place at the Southern Association for Performance Arts (SAPA) competition held at Denmark High School on February 15. Color guard is a dance competition associated with using different equipment like a flag to enhance the music of a marching band.
The Winter Color Guard, known for its dynamic choreography and vibrant visual elements.
“Color guard is kind of like the main division tied to marching band,” Lambert Winter Guard sophomore Lexi Hanson explained. “The choreography was also very cool.”
The color guard team got to perform their emerging routine and try out costumes for the first time. The costumes were a burgundy color that was made of a silky breathable material for easy wear while performing.
“We have almost all of our choreography filled out, and we had costumes for the first time, which was really, really exciting,” Hanson said.
The Lambert Winter Color Guard is still growing as a part of the performing arts program at the school. The team is not only growing in terms of its performance level, but also its presence in the community. Their most recent competition they went to recently allowed the the team to meet new people.
Choreography is orchestrated largely by coaches Matthew Gilmore and with Sidney Keller, to make every performance artistically appealing. They are seniors on the team and are taking up a leadership position to drive the color guard team to success.
This first place win at the SAPA competition showed the talent and dedication of the Winter Color Guard, setting the standard high for future performances.
