Lambert Boys Win the Region Championship
The Lambert boys team battled their way through a very long road that had a stop at the region championship against West Forsyth Wolverines. The Longhorn boys came into this game with a 21-5 record with an exceptional 8-2 record in the region. West Forsyth has had a resurgence in their basketball program with clinching the opportunity at a region championship.
The Longhorns, who are lead by PG Jordan McIlwain and SF Mitch Ganote, started off the game back and forth with the Wolverines. However, a late run by the Longhorns propelled them to a 23-19 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Longhorns blitzed West Forsyth and went up 37-19. West Forsyth stormed back with a ferocious attack and managed to go back up 42-37 at halftime.
The game started back in the third quarter with another back and forth affair, similar to the beginning of the game. The Longhorns ended up regrouping and they blew a lead wide open and went up 61-48. This time there would be no comeback from West as the Longhorns held on to win the game 71-52. McIlwain lead the team in scoring with 17 points. Ganote had 12 points, Damon Stoudamire had 11 points, and Austin Deckard had 10 points. This was also Head Coach Bracco’s 400th career win. An astounding achievement. This was a enormous win that adds some momentum going into the state playoffs. The team will now take on Mill Creek.
