Lambert Volleyball cruises to first round victory
Following last Wednesday’s heartbreaking loss to South Forsyth in the region championship match, the #2 seed Longhorn volleyball team got back to work in the first round of the state tournament.
The ladies of Lambert played host to Cobb county opponent Kennesaw Mountain. Early on in the contest, the Mustangs were crippled by poor play, which allowed Lambert to claim a 25-17 victory in the first set. After a much more fundamentally sound beginning to the second set, the Longhorns went into another gear, looking like a team determined to win, which they did in the set by a score of 25-16.
Keeping the momentum going, the Horns quickly jumped out to a demanding lead in the deciding third set of the match. Lead by stellar defense along the net by senior Kendall Spangler and excellent libero play by Jordyn Moellering, Lambert was able to score 9 times before Kennesaw Mountain even scored once. Lambert never looked back after this point was able to win the final set by a score of 25-7.
The dominance by the Longhorns is certainly something they would like to keep going as they take on Camden County High school in the Sweet 16.
