Cheating has taken many forms, whether it be assignments, quizzes or tests. (Justin Hwang/The Lambert Post), September 6, 2023.

Lambert is known for having some of the most academically high-reaching and scoring students in Forsyth County and the state of Georgia. But how many of these grades are honestly achieved? In a study done by Dr. Donald McCabe in cooperation with the International Center for Academic Integrity, 95% of students reported that they had cheated before.

Cheating has become normalized in Lambert’s student culture.

“It can be very unfair,” Lambert junior Jay Lee said. “For a hard exam, someone who would typically get a C would get an A with answers given to them before the exam.”

This has led to a student culture that views cheating as an easy method for good grades and a higher GPA.

“The high importance causes people to strive for an A, even if it requires cheating,” Lee said.

Stricter testing environments have made cheating harder, and some teachers require students to put up phones before starting a quiz or test.

Furthermore, in an interview with the Lambert administration, Ms Fowler and Ms. Parker explained the efforts that the administration has made towards cheating.

Towards the beginning of the year, students are required to watch informational videos regarding cheating and take a quiz on the topic.

Furthermore, Lambert administration recently revamped many of their disciplinary consequences, all of which are mentioned in their student handbook. Students can view the student handbook starting on page 17. Students can inform themselves about the possible levels of offense and the severity of consequences that may result.

In closing, Ms. Fowler expressed her hopes for students at Lambert to make the right judgment.

“I want kids to feel that sense of pride that knowing that that number on there [(transcript)] is an accurate reflection of the work that they put forth,” Ms. Fowler explained. “You know, we want you all to have that satisfaction to know that that number was achieved, honestly, of course, because there’s a satisfaction that comes from knowing that you really truly deserve something and you deserve that number.”

Students who may seek more information regarding cheating can check the Lambert High School website for more about the policies and regulations.
