From late-November and onwards, Christmas songs become unavoidable. You’ll hear them at any party, while shopping, and especially when you turn on a TV or radio. When it comes to making your own Christmas playlist, you’ll probably want festive favorites: Wham!, Mariah, Michael Buble, etc. Lambert students voted for the top 10 ten best Christmas songs that get you in the feels of this festive season.

I made a survey in which I asked students to list the top 3 best songs they have in their Christmas playlist. The number one highest rated Christmas song with 14 votes is “All I Want for Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey. Twenty-five years after its release, Mariah Carey’s ultimate holiday bop is still the go-to tune to get any party started. It consistently lands in the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Holiday 100. “All I Want for Christmas Is You” is a joyful and simple song and it transcends originality. It’s the rare modern song that has become a standard.

The Christmas classic “Last Christmas” is here to soothe anyone with a bad case of holiday heartache. “Last Christmas” reached up to 12 votes and Emily Weimer, a junior at Lambert, said, ”Each year, my family and I blast this song while decorating the Christmas tree.” 

Turn it up for some chill ’80s vibes and a reminder that there’s way more to this festive season than finding love. This is a great song for when you are having a bad holiday and provides life advice for you to give love to people who deserve it.

Although “Jingle Bell Rock” song was released in 1957, it hit the Billboard Hot 100’s top 10 chart in January 2019 at number eight. “Jingle Bell Rock” got 10 votes and it was said that,” It is a classic song that was in every Christmas party that I’ve been to.” The song broke the record for the longest wait time to get into the top 10 at over 60 years since its release. This classic tune is so upbeat and original, it’ll get you on your feet and dancing around no matter how many times you’ve sworn off this song.
