The Lambert’s Boys Basketball team has been on a remarkable winning streak, showcasing their skill and teamwork in a series of impressive victories. The Longhorns, led by Head Coach Clay Wages, have demonstrated both their offensive prowess and defensive tenacity, marking them as a formidable force in the region.
On November 30th, the Longhorns delivered an overwhelming victory against Jefferson High School, with a score of 82-47. Will Dopfer was a standout, achieving a double-double of 25 points and ten rebounds. Cam Bland also shined brightly, contributing 24 points and five assists, while Taj McLeod bolstered the defense with eight boards and four blocks. This game set the tone for the Longhorns’ season, showcasing their aggressive and fast-paced style of play.
Continuing their streak, Lambert secured a decisive 64-48 road win over North Forsyth. Bland led the scoring with 17 points and added five rebounds, while Stephen Hall supported with 11 points. Despite North Forsyth’s early lead, Lambert quickly adapted and took control, demonstrating their resilience and strategic acumen.
In their Region 6-7A opener, the Longhorns triumphed over Denmark with a 77-61 victory. Multi-sport athlete Brooks Wehman, committed to playing lacrosse at the Naval Academy, displayed his diverse talents by steering the team as point guard, garnering 15 points, seven steals and five assists. Bland, a junior and first-team all-region honoree in football, led the offensive charge with 25 points. This game not only highlighted individual excellence but also the team’s ability to maintain composure and adapt under pressure.
Throughout these games, several players have consistently stood out. Bland’s versatile scoring ability, Wehman’s leadership and defensive skills, and Dopfer’s dominance in both scoring and rebounding are notable highlights. The strategic play calling by Coach Wages and the team’s ability to adjust tactics mid-game has been instrumental in their victories.
“I think we’ve had a great season so far,” Wehman said. “I am most proud about how hard our team plays each and every game.”
As of now, the Lambert Longhorns boast an impressive 7-1 record, a testament to their hard work and dedication throughout the season. Looking ahead, they face Hebron Christian this Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., and their next home game is on Friday, where they will take on the Dacula Falcons at 7:00 p.m.
“The preparation is the same going into the rest of the season,” Wehman explained. “We will continue to work as hard as we can every day to be the best we can be.”
