“Euphoria” Season 2
Season 2 of “Euphoria” has been airing on HBO for the past month and it has received national attention while also becoming a hit with teens.
The show features Zendaya, who plays Rue, as she and her friends navigate their way through drugs and relationships. The show is so addictive with its bright colors and glittery makeup but should teens be watching it?
“Euphoria” is a highly graphic show that features violence, nudity, drug use and so much more. Parents have raised concerns about their teenagers being exposed to this type of show, while others either do not care or think that it raises awareness on teenage drug use. Shelley Duskin, a watcher of “Euphoria” and also my mom, has opinions on this issue.
“The show can sometimes glamorize drugs but the latest episode showed drugs in a more realistic way that every teenager should see,” Shelley stated. “I think overall, it’s a pretty controversial show and I hope it’s not accurate for how most teens’ lives are.”
However, the show is amazing and addicting to watch. The teens, while highly exaggerated, face real issues that are relatable to the modern teen. Mallory Rodgers, a junior at Lambert High School, talks about why she loves the show so much.
“I feel like I can see a piece of me in all the characters, they are all so morally gray,” Rodgers exclaimed. “I truly love the show and could go on forever about it.”
Contrary to popular belief, the show does not glorify drug use. The things that each character goes through due to drugs are enough to inspire anyone to not even try drugs. Ruined families and graphic overdoses are just a few of the reasons to steer teens away from drugs.
Additionally, the soundtrack to “Euphoria” is probably the best soundtrack to any show. The songs fit perfectly and Labrinth, who writes most of the songs for the show, was able to create an amazing audio experience.
No matter if you think Euphoria is too graphic or you love the show, there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that it has become one of the biggest shows out today.
