Lambert Basketball’s Marlin Classic Championship: A Recount
On December 28th, the 18th annual Marlin Classic Championship was held in Panama City Beach. The team had a strong performance, and they were able to secure the championship with a final score of 63-50 against Lebanon, Tennessee.
“It was hard earned, we’re glad we won it,” Lambert Basketball Head Coach Clayton Wages said.
In the first round of the tournament, the team faced off against Pleasant Grove, Alabama, and won with a final score of 75-68. Cameron Bland led the team with 22 points and four rebounds, while Niko Wilson contributed a valuable 20 points and three assists. To round off the stat sheet, James Tyre contributed 15 points and eight assists, and Dopfer William had eight points and eight rebounds.
In the semifinals, the team played against Madisonville, Kentucky and dominated from start to finish with a score of 80-38. Niko Wilson had another impressive performance, leading the team with 25 points and four assists. Cameron Bland also led the way with 14 points and five rebounds, adding to another successful showing at the event.
The victory march would conclude with the championship game against Lebanon, Tennessee, on December 30th, 2022. Wilson was once again the leading scorer for the team with 19 points and three assists. Tyre further contributed to the championship effort with 15 points and eight assists, helping Lambert to a well-deserved title at the Marlin Classic.
Overall, the championship was a team effort that involved consistent hard work and dedication from the players. Cam Bland and Niko Wilson paved the way for the team with their solid performances, and with a cohesive team dynamic stitching the players together, the team was able to come out on top.
“We have to keep getting better as individual players… we’re ready for it,” Wages said.
Their next game will be on February 7th against West Forsyth High School at The Horn. Come to support the girls at 6:00 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m on Senior Night! This is their last regular season game, so come support and wear white for “White Out West!”
