At Lambert, Track and Field athletes work tirelessly to do the best they can in their events, and with the first meet just around the corner, the athletes are doing their best to be better than ever.
Coach James Tigue hopes to keep growing the program and focus on their motivation and drive at their events.
“I want them to maximize their time while they’re out there and try to win the region championships,” Tigue said.
The main events include sprints, hurdles, distance and jump events. For team events, there are four-person relays that add a team element to the sport.
Varsity Sprinter Michelle McLeod hopes to beat her personal record in the long jump and triple jump. Since Lambert Track and Field offers a wide variety of events, McLeod wants to specialize in specific events that work best for her this year.
“Last season I would say I wish that I had picked the events I wanted to do and just focused on those versus trying to do a bunch of different things,” McLeod explained.
Twins Salima and Aminah Jabbie hope to work on their tactics to help them make it to the state this year.
Salima is looking forward to beating her records from last year and is utilizing certain things to make sure she can be a worthy competitor at meets.
“My goal is to fix my block starts and better my time and my accomplishments from last year are placing third and fourth in the state,” Salima Jabbie said.
Aminah thinks Track and Field are special because there’s always something new for everyone to try at every meeting, unlike other sports at Lambert.
“I think track is unique because it’s a fun sport that has multiple events in it that you can run,” Aminah Jabbie said.
Lambert is proud to have an amazing roster of Track and Field athletes who are racing into the new season with utmost enthusiasm, and as they run into the new season with their first meet on February 14, Lambert wishes them the best of luck.
