What to Expect For Cross Country This Year
Lambert’s cross country season just started this August. So far, they placed well in their first major competition – the regional championship (which took place at West Forsyth High School) – and faced rival schools.
Both the Varsity girls and Junior Varsity boys took home the first place trophy, the Varsity boys placed second and the Junior Varsity girls got third place.
“Overall, the cross country season has been great; we have had a few ups and downs but we are slowly building up,” Varsity runner Jackson Hogsed explained. “Our races have been alright, but we are just trying to continuously improve.”
Lambert students can expect the cross country teams to continue to improve. Hogsed described the runners’ increasingly fast times and how the tough competition is improving Lambert’s performance.
To compete at a high level, many runners have to be conscious of factors outside of school practice.
“Compared to last year, I am trying to do the little things better,” Hogsed explained. “For example, loving the sport, doing workouts outside of practice, hydrating and stretching constantly.”
He considered the mentality and determination required to improve and face competition in his strongest form. Focusing on the seemingly insignificant aspects of life has been key to improving both mentally and physically.
All things considered, Lambert students can look forward to the upcoming championships throughout the year.
“These races are normally very fast, competitive and fun,” Hogsed explained.
On November 4th, the GHSA State Championships will take place at Carrollton High School. Tickets can be purchased here for $10.
